Travel Safety for Students

  • University of Arizona Campus Recreation Center 1400 E. Sixth St. Tucson, AZ (map)

Don't miss this 2-week, 3-hour seminar that realistically explores potential dangers of traveling in the modern world. Learn what you can do as a student to keep yourself and your possessions safer, whether traveling across town or studying abroad. Students will leave the seminar ready to navigate new areas aware of danger, empowered to take responsibility for their own safety, and ready to defend themselves if the need arises. Discussion, drills and scenarios will cover:

  • Expanding your Habits of Awareness

  • Identifying risky people & places

  • Methods for discouraging attackers

  • Dealing with unwanted verbal or physical sexual advances

  • Understanding laws, culture, and behavior differences

  • Creating emergency plans in advance (rather than reacting under stress)

  • “Stun & Run” self-defense for escaping an attack

  • How & where to get help in an emergency

  • Who to contact after a situation occurs

Sessions will run on Wed. evenings 5:30-7:00PM on Feb. 13 and Feb. 20, 2019. Register through UA Campus Rec website (https://rec.arizona.edu/activity/travel-safety-students).
